Job description
What You Will Do

Salary: $109,100 - $182,000

RP-TA55 has a need for multiple Health Physics Manufacturing Manager 1 professionals to support programmatic, maintenance and construction work activities, and radiation protection compliance surveys at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Technical Area (TA) 55. Reporting to a Manufacturing Manager 3, the Health Physics Manufacturing Manager 1 will be the lead supervisor and assist the first-line manager in the oversight and implementation of the Radiation Protection Program (RPP), supporting work execution, and coordination of Radiological Control Technician (RCTs) resources. In addition, the Manufacturing Manager 1 will interact with construction, maintenance, and programmatic personnel to help ensure the appropriate radiological controls are in place, provide guidance and mentoring to assigned RCTs, respond to radiological incidents, and ensure work documents and permits (e.g., Radiological Work Permits) are readily available for work.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Knowledge and experience with Radiological Protection Program management and implementation in a high hazard work environment
Knowledgeable of and experience planning for and managing tactical execution of work to ensure radiological controls are correctly applied, including high hazard work.
Experience providing technical direction and supervising multidisciplinary teams for radiation protection activities to ensure compliance with procedures and 10 CFR 835.
Knowledge of and experience responding to radiological incidents and emergencies.
Experience building a cohesive, high performing team; directing the daily work activity to meet deliverables; as well as supervising the execution of work in alignment with the organization's vision, goals and commitments.
Experience fostering a culture that values continuous improvement and organizational learning that results in the prevention of events and provides the controls necessary to promote safe and secure work.


Training/Certifications: DOE Radiological Control Technician Certification required

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupations.

Desired Qualifications:

TSQP qualified.
Extensive problem solving skills, analytical skills and the ability to execute special assignments or procedure development consistent with radiation protection regulatory drivers.
Extensive knowledge and experience responding to radiological incidents and emergencies.
Skill to conceptualize and communicate major elements of radiation control procedures to both technical and non- technical personnel. Working knowledge of actinide processing health physics.
National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) Certification.
RWP authority.
Active Q clearance.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Note to Applicants: Position requires a Q-clearance and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). 6 Health Physics Manufacturing Managers 1s will be assigned to day shift and 2 Health Physics Manufacturing Mangers 1s will be assigned to mid-shift.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
