What You Will Do

Come join the LANL Institutional Quality (IQ) Group! We are seeking a motivated professional who will report to the Team Leader of Assessment Support and Oversight or Quality Program Support. We want to hear from you if you are a high-energy, self-directed person who wants to share your experience and expertise in multiple quality areas. You will have the opportunity to work with others in a professional and personable manner daily while you increase Institutional Quality visibility throughout the lab and with our suppliers.

We are looking for applicants with experience in assessments and audits.

This position will be filled at either the QPA Specialist level 1 or 2, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

QPA Specialist 1: ($63,200 - $99,000)

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Support audits and assessments of institutional and/or supplier quality programs to ensure compliance with applicable quality requirements. This can include travel.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with quality concepts and principles and how these are applied.
Ability to take responsibility and be accountable for actions and decision-making within their task assignment with some supervision.
Provide input to reports, briefings and documentation for IQPA-IQ program coordinators, lead auditors, customers, and vendors.
Researches, assembles, and/or evaluates information or data regarding industry practices or applicable regulatory changes affecting IQPA policies or programs.


QPA Specialist 2: ($76,900 - $122,200)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the candidate would:

Serve as an auditor and peer mentor for auditors in training.
Working knowledge and experience developing and tracking corrective actions to completion in a structured system
Facilitates collaboration and coordination to solve complex quality assurance challenges using defined processes and tools.
Assists with the communication and training of quality and performance assurance principles, policies, and tools.
Prepare reports, briefings and documentation for IQPA-IQ program coordinators, lead auditors, customers, regulators and vendors. Contribute ideas and content to process improvement (procedures, training material, etc.).
Experience with Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Issues Management, supporting quality assessments, surveillances, and/or audits.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Quality Assurance Requirements: Some working knowledge and experience of quality assurance requirements, policies, and procedures such as DOE O 414.1D, ASME NQA-1 2008/2009(a), flow down of requirements to customers, vendors and subcontractors.

Self-directed and Teamwork: Proven success working independently and in a team environment with some supervision.

Customer Service: Experience utilizing strong written and verbal communication skills.

Decision Making: Some experience supporting and/or making effective decisions and understanding risks related to technical issues.

Business Systems: Experience with Microsoft 365 Office Suite.

Education/Experience at lower level: This requires an Associate's Degree in a relevant field or combination of technical certification and 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or combination of technical certification and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.


Desired Qualifications:

Qualification: NQA-1 Auditor qualification (specific to assessment and audit roles).

Technical Reviews: Some experience reviewing technical documents for completeness and compliance.

Continuous Improvement: Some experience participating in process improvement principles and practices such as lean continuous improvement.

Relationship Management: Some experience managing or supporting relationships, conflict resolution, and collaborative problem solving.

Work Environment: Domestic/foreign travel

Work Location: The work location for this position is telework and is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within 2hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
