It only counts 10 minutes from the last activity.

It started counting when we upgraded to the SMF software (about a year ago ~400 days I'd guess.

It just counts the time you are active, and keeps counting, 1 hr is 60 active minutes, its a running total.

I spend time on the site as a guest also, so I guess I have more time than my profile says.

Click on forum tab, go to the bottom of the page, and click on "more stats".

I'm still kicking your hind end!

Rennhack  16d 21h 44m
Roll Tide  14d 20h 48m
Nuclear NASCAR  10d 18h 30m
Dan_E.  6d 18h 58m
Beer Court  5d 20h 46m
Marlin  5d 17h 56m
HydroDave63  5d 16h 0m
Camella Black  5d 13h 50m
RDTroja  5d 7h 39m
PWHoppe  4d 16h 55m

It's crazy, Tom has almost twice as much time online as the next closest person, and Roll tide has almost three times as much time online.

Not true, it does NOT count time logged in, it counts ACTIVITY for logged in people.  It you stay logged in, and visit the site for 10 min a week, you get 10 min of credit, not a week.

Looks like Io pulled ahead of Gamecock, all others stay the same.

It's interesting to look back and see the usage change.  Where did Dan_E go?  I wonder what the Time Online/ Posts ratio is, and Time online to Karma ratio is.

Note, I deleted users with 2 or less data points.  I also added 2010 data for Troy and Roll Tide, from their profile today, Then decided not to include them, as they are not in the 2010 Top 10 Population.

Also interesting to note, is that all of those people have been moderators except Spanky.

PWHoppe (and Troy &Roll Tide) has a consistent, but almost flat rise, the rest of us have a sharp, but consistent rise. -- But Dave... Wow.  Do you see that rise from 2008 to 2010?  I regret not having a data-point from 2009, and not having one from the middle of 2007.  Lets try to do better in collecting these data points.

Below is the data I used for the chart.

What about Marssim?!

He was not in the Top 10 before 2010.  I explained that, and showed all the data.

Note, I deleted users with 2 or less data points.
Below is the data I used for the chart.

Marssim   116171   11/2/2010

I used one data point per year.  If YOU wanted to, you could collect all the 2010 only data points, and make a chart.

I'd like to see a correlation between large time jumps and lay offs.. :)

Spending 14hrs in a plant with no computer/internet seriously skews the numbers.

What determines "time on line", posting/replying or something else?  Since I know everyone on the list keeps logged in forever, as I do, until a computer shutdown forces me to log back in, I just wondered what the determining factors are!

If I remember correctly it used to be that 10 minutes of inactivity, regardless of being logged in, timed out the time online clock.

I do leave myself logged onto NukeWorker and scan periodically for new posts that would explain a lot. Not that I have not spent plenty of time in discussions.

It only counts 10 minutes from the last activity.
It started counting when we upgraded to the SMF software (about a year ago ~400 days I'd guess.
It just counts the time you are active, and keeps counting, 1 hr is 60 active minutes, its a running total.

2nd post on the first page.  However, it's not 100% accurate, the code below is EXACTLY what happens.

Code: [Select]
  // Mark your session as being logged.
  $_SESSION['log_time'] = time();

  // Well, they are online now.
  if (empty($_SESSION['timeOnlineUpdated']))
    $_SESSION['timeOnlineUpdated'] = time();

  // Set their login time, if not already done within the last minute.
  if (SMF != 'SSI' && !empty($user_info['last_login']) && $user_info['last_login'] < time() - 60)
  {
    // Don't count longer than 15 minutes.
    if (time() - $_SESSION['timeOnlineUpdated'] > 60 * 15)
      $_SESSION['timeOnlineUpdated'] = time();

    $user_settings['totalTimeLoggedIn'] += time() - $_SESSION['timeOnlineUpdated'];
    updateMemberData($ID_MEMBER, array('lastLogin' => time(), 'memberIP' => '\'' . $user_info['ip'] . '\'', 'memberIP2' => '\'' . $_SERVER['BAN_CHECK_IP'] .

    if (!empty($modSettings['cache_enable']) && $modSettings['cache_enable'] >= 2)
      cache_put_data('user_settings-' . $ID_MEMBER, $user_settings, 60);

    $user_info['total_time_logged_in'] += time() - $_SESSION['timeOnlineUpdated'];
    $_SESSION['timeOnlineUpdated'] = time();
  }

It's basically this:

-You access the forum (and are already logged in)
---Your total time does not go up
-You then access a thread 5 minutes later
---Your total time goes up by 5 minutes
-You then access a thread 30 seconds later
---You total time does not go up (less than 60 seconds from the last time update)
-You then access a thread 45 seconds later
---Your total time goes up by 75 seconds (30 + 45 = 75 seconds, which is more than 60 seconds, which means your time goes up).
-You then access a thread 16 minutes later
---Your total time does not go up (the limit is 15 minutes between actions, at this point, you've started a new "session").
-You then access a thread 7 minutes later
---Your total time goes up by 7 minutes.

TLDR;

So, one click >1 min and <15 min from the last click adds time.
