What You Will Do

Come join the LANL Institutional Quality (IQ) Group! We are seeking a motivated professional who will report to the Team Leader of Assessment Support and Oversight or Quality Program Support. We want to hear from you if you are a high-energy, self-directed person who wants to share your experience and expertise in multiple quality areas. You will have the opportunity to work with others in a professional and personable manner daily while you increase Institutional Quality visibility throughout the lab and with our suppliers.

We are looking for applicants with experience in assessments and audits.

This position will be filled at either the QPA Specialist level 3 or 4, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

QPA Specialist 3: ($92,300 - $151,000)

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Lead audits and assessments of institutional and supplier quality programs to ensure compliance with contractual quality requirements. This will include travel.
Write reports, briefings and documentation for IQPA-IQ program coordinators, lead auditors, customers, regulators, and vendors.
Serve as peer mentor and conduct on-the-job training as needed. Develop and implement process improvement initiatives (procedures, training material, etc.).
Follows up on actions taken in response to audit/assessment/surveillance findings to ensure adequacy of corrective actions are taken.
Interacts with all management levels, DOE/NNSA, suppliers, contractors, and other LANL personnel.
Knowledge of Corrective Actions Process
Develop and implement process improvement initiatives (procedures, training material, etc.).


QPA Specialist 4: ($112,000 - $186,700)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the candidate would:

Serve as a lead auditor and peer mentor for auditors in training.
Develop and mentor staff in quality assurance principles.
Responsible for independent action, decision-making, and accountability within areas of responsibility, managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
Provide leadership and oversight of evaluations for compliance and effectiveness of the institutional and/or external suppliers.
Expertise in effective decision-making and risk management regarding complex technical issues.
Lead process improvement (procedures, training material, process aids, etc.) to facilitate healthy business relationships and deeper understanding of core quality assurance principles and contractual requirements.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Quality Assurance Requirements: Extensive demonstrated experience of quality assurance requirements, policies, and procedures such as DOE O 414.1D, ASME NQA-1 2008/2009(a), flow down of requirements to customers, vendors and subcontractors. Qualified auditor.

Self-directed and Teamwork: Proven success working independently and in a team environment. Strong ability to lead others.

Customer Service: Extensive experience utilizing strong written and verbal communication skills.

Decision Making: Extensive experience driving fact-based decision utilizing data and risk-based analysis related to complex technical issues.

Business Systems: Experience with Microsoft 365 Office Suite.

Education/Experience at lower level: This position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, and a minimum of 8 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: This position requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, and a minimum of 12 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Qualification: NQA-1 Lead Auditor certification.

Technical Reviews: Extensive experience reviewing technical documents for completeness and compliance.

Continuous Improvement: Extensive experience participating in and/or leading process improvement principles and practices such as lean continuous improvement.

Relationship Management: Advanced experience managing or supporting relationships, conflict resolution, and collaborative problem solving.


Work Environment: Domestic/Foreign Travel

Work Location: The work location for this position is telework and is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within 2hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Please refer to Policy P701 for applicant eligibility requirements.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position at higher level is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
