Job description
Deep Fission is hiring Reactor Operators / Senior Reactor Operators for our nuclear project in Parsons, Kansas. Relocation assistance is provided.
Deep Fission is a nuclear technology company developing a revolutionary deep-borehole pressurized water reactor. We are building our Operations team during the design and pre-licensing phase and are seeking experienced nuclear operators who want the opportunity to help shape the plant they will ultimately operate.
This is not a position joining an established shift crew. Operators hired now will have the opportunity to participate in plant design reviews, help develop operating and emergency procedures, contribute to operator training materials, and help establish the operating culture for a first-of-a-kind nuclear facility.
### Initial Training and Licensure
Selected operators will enter Deep Fission's Initial Operator Training program, including classroom instruction, simulator training, and supervised watch standing. Operators will progress through initial DOE qualification and then toward NRC operator licensing.
Following qualification and licensure, responsibilities will include direct control-room operations, reactor startups, power changes and shutdowns, Technical Specification implementation, reactivity management, emergency response responsibilities, and exercising stop-work authority when required for nuclear safety.
### Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet or exceed one of the following experience paths:
NRC Licensed Operator
Hold or have held an NRC Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator license with at least one year of licensed operating experience at a comparable facility.
Military Reactor Operator
Minimum 18 months of post-qualification experience in a military reactor position equivalent to Reactor Operator or Supervisor, including:
* Engineering Watch Supervisor (EWS)
* Reactor Operator (RO)
* Engineering Officer of the Watch (EOOW)
* Propulsion Plant Watch Supervisor (PPWS)
SRO Instructor
Current or previous NRC SRO Instructor certification with at least four years of experience at a comparable facility or six years at a non-comparable facility.
Candidates must also be able to demonstrate that they have supervised, or brought a reactor to criticality, in a plant or simulator environment.
### Additional Requirements
* High school diploma or equivalent
* Ability to successfully complete Deep Fission operator training and qualification requirements
* Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts in a 24/7 operating environment
* Ability to satisfy required medical and Fitness for Duty requirements
* Ability to satisfy applicable DOE export-control requirements
* Ability to travel domestically as required, anticipated up to 20%
* Willingness to relocate to Parsons, Kansas
### Preferred Experience
* Pressurized water reactor operating experience
* Nuclear emergency response leadership experience
* Experience developing or validating operating procedures, emergency operating procedures, simulator materials, or operator training programs
* Bachelor's degree in nuclear, mechanical, electrical engineering, or another technical field
* Startup, new-build, or first-of-a-kind nuclear experience
This position is onsite in Parsons, Kansas. Deep Fission provides company-supported relocation assistance to help offset eligible moving and transition costs for candidates relocating to the area.
Description of ideal candidate
We are seeking experienced nuclear operators who meet at least one of the following qualification paths: current or former NRC Reactor Operator/Senior Reactor Operator; qualified military reactor operator with at least 18 months of post-qualification experience in an equivalent watch position (EWS, RO, EOOW, or PPWS); or current/former NRC SRO Instructor with the required operating experience.
Strong candidates will bring hands-on reactor operations experience, preferably in a pressurized water reactor environment, and demonstrate experience supervising or bringing a reactor to criticality in a plant or simulator. Experience with operating procedures, emergency procedures, operator training, simulator activities, or nuclear emergency response is highly valued.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a first-of-a-kind environment and wants to help build the operating program—not simply join an established shift crew.
Candidates must be willing to relocate to Parsons, Kansas, with company-supported relocation assistance provided.
