We’re looking for motivated students to be part of a dynamic 11-week paid internship where you’ll work on impactful projects and gain real-world experience, all while supporting our mission to improve health and improve lives.

Chosen candidate will work with mentors in the Engineering department on real projects that directly impact UUSA’s enrichment and Net Zero initiative. The purpose of the job is to provide the engineering intern with an opportunity to gain knowledge in a nuclear regulated facility to learn the operating processes of engineering within the nuclear enrichment plant. Possible opportunities include designing modifications to the operating plant, ensuring plant functionality, obsolesce of components critical to plant operation, and/or construction activities in building or upgrading an existing facility. The opportunity will be able to provide a unique ability to experience engineering required behind one critical aspect of the nuclear fuel cycle.

The Systems Engineer Intern will provide technical support to Maintenance and Operations departments, especially for emergent repair following breakdown and associated troubleshooting. They also oversee Asset Management, address component obsolescence, oversee system lifecycle management in production, and manage system health. They also provide Fire Protection Engineering guidance and oversight for the site. In a nutshell, Systems Engineers keep things running and ensure they will run well in the future and ensure compliance with fire safety requirements.

Program Summary

• May 2027 through August 2027 (11 weeks) internship program
• Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week for the duration of the program

Compensation

• Paid Internship $21/hour paid bi-weekly

Candidate Requirements / Eligibility

• Must be enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university pursuing a 4 year degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering
• 2 years of college courses completed
• Able to work ALL 11 weeks (May through August) of the internship program
• Work Schedule: Professional work schedule/M-F 9/80 work schedule
• Security Clearance Requirement: CAA Access and successfully pass a security clearance, background verification and drug free screening process
• Work Environment: General Office. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets etc.
• Responsible for the protection of confidential and proprietary information received during employment, including keeping information in strict confidence, exercising a reasonable degree of care to prevent disclosure to others, not disclosing or divulging either directly or indirectly information to others, and not using the information commercially or for any other purpose other than the performance of their duties for Urenco. • Basic Engineering Principles with core concepts involving power systems, electronics, programming, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, mechanics, material balances, mass balances, structural, or construction engineering.

• Will be involved in diagnosing issues in designs or systems and proposing viable solutions.
• Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
• Well-rounded individuals who have participated in a variety of extra-curricular activities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and high energy.
• Ability to start on the designated start date.
• Must be organized, positive and have a professional demeanor.
• Must be detail oriented and possess good time management skills.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proficient in use of MS Office suite: Excel, Word, Power Point, OneNote, Teams and Visio.
• Willingness to absorb new technologies, tools, and methods quickly.
• Ability to adapt to different tasks, environments, and team dynamics.
