It had a single General Electric boiling water reactor, a BWR-4 with Mark II containment, with a net output of 860 MW. Construction began in the late 1960s, and the unit was connected to the grid on 23 May 1978. It was shut down on 1 July 1990, after Italian voters rejected nuclear power in a referendum in November 1987.
