Hinkley Point A had two Magnox reactors. Construction began on 1 November 1957, the units were connected to the grid in February and March 1965, and the station was formally opened on 22 April 1966. Permanent closure was announced in May 2000. Hinkley Point B has two advanced gas-cooled reactors, begun on 1 September 1967 and connected to the grid in 1976. They were permanently shut down in July and August 2022. Hinkley Point C received a nuclear site license for two EPR units in November 2012, and its first nuclear concrete was poured on 11 December 2018.
