Monts d'Arrée is the site of the EL-4 reactor, an experimental unit in the Monts d'Arrée hills of Finistère, Brittany, near the village of Brennilis. It was a heavy-water-moderated, carbon-dioxide-cooled reactor with a planned output of 70 MW electric.

Construction began in 1962 under the French atomic energy commission, and the reactor first reached criticality in December 1966. It was connected to the grid on 9 July 1967. In 1975, explosions damaged a turbine, and in 1979 an attack by the Breton Liberation Front destroyed the power lines linking the plant to the grid. EL-4 was permanently shut down on 31 July 1985. Decommissioning work followed, with a flood in December 2000 and a fire in January 2001 during one phase.
