Urenco's centrifuge technology became available for use in the United States after the 1992 Treaty of Washington. The plant received a combined construction and operating license from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Construction began in December 2006 and was carried out in three phases. Production of enriched uranium started in June 2010, and the first customer delivery was completed in March 2012.
